The 5th Day: VISION

The 5th Day of Christmas: VISION

Dear Readers,

I’ve been so busy all day with the webinars and the
classes that I’m writing this in the evening on Saturday.

The subject is YOUR CREATIVE VISION, and I have
two different short essays on this subject that I
resurrected to share this Holiday.

I hope you enjoy!

==================================================
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A VISION AND A DREAM
==================================================

From the Book MARATHON By Jeff Galloway

A dream is not connected to reality. It’s easy to dream
that you’ll run below two hours in the marathon. Yes,
you can dream far beyond your capabilities and set yourself
up for great disappointment. At the instant of your dream,
you may be exhilarated. But without a plan and the reality
checks along the way, motivation is lost very quickly.
Even when dreams are within your capabilities, without
a well-structured training program and regular mental
contact with your vision, dreams are seldom realized.

In contrast, a vision is a series of images that can be
molded over several months into a realistic behavioral
plan that is put into action every week. In effect, you’re
a sculptor who molds an elusive image into a series of
real experiences that have all of the elements that
prepare you for and lead you to a goal that is realistic,
fulfilling and engaging.

A vision is a realistic future behavioral experience
that you can prepare for by specific physical and mental
exercises. To truly fulfill a vision, you must chart
out these exercises, constantly adjusting and fine-tuning
them to make the vision more complete and meaningful to
you. Then, you end up with a final product that is much
better than the one you started with. With each adjustment,
you get more involved in the process and become more motivated.

=================================
Do you have VISION or a DREAM?
=================================

If you have a VISION, then you not only can see yourself
succeeding, but you see choices you can make on
the path to success. You see that you can change your
behavior to make your creative success not only a
Dream, but a tangible reality.

Because we get caught up in living the dream, sometimes
we forget the VISION, which is to change our behavior
to ensure success. Training for success is like training
for a marathon, or a sporting event.

So, here is what I propose: Get out a sheet of paper
and write down your VISION. Make it a wonderful Vision
with a tangible outcome. Then take and write down a
simple step by step plan to achieve your vision, never
losing sight of the vision.

The Holidays is a great time to do this. Create your
VISION FOR THE FUTURE!

Plus here’s an short essay I wrote a few years ago
on a VISION OF DESTINY!

================================
A VISION OF DESTINY!
================================

THE POWERFUL PATH, is that of the actor who is so enamored
of the process, and loves the audition process, and the casting
process, and the learning and the cold reading, and all of the
parts of this business and art and craft, that the actor creates
a VISION OF DESTINY through this process and proceeds towards that
vision undaunted by pitfalls and obstacles.

This PATH is the journey and the journey is the path. Remember, if
you get to the point that you ENJOY the adversity, and you ENJOY the
challenge of overcoming hardship, and you ENJOY the prospect of
defeat…and at the same time you SAVOR THE CONSEQUENCES IF YOU
SUCCEED….that DREAM overcomes all hardship and you will
persevere…

Feed your HUNGER to succeed with small successes on the creative
road…and remember to enjoy these times, because you will look
back at them as the HAPPIEST and MUST FULFILLING times of your
life… Develop a camaraderie with friends, and most importantly,
WATCH THEIR BACK, and find friends to help WATCH YOUR BACK…because
the creative person needs that camaraderie that nurtures the spirit
and protects us from our own naivete.

All the best,

Jack Turnbull

4th Day “ATTITUDE”

=============
"Attitude"
=============

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of
attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important
than facts. It is more Important than the past, than
education, than money, than circumstances, than failures,
than successes, than what other people think, say, or do.
It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill
It will make or break a company:..a church..a home. The
remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding
the attitude we will embrace for that day. We can not
change our past. We can not change the fact that people
will act in a certain way. We can not change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the string we have;
and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is
10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it." --Unknown

"Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines
what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it."
Lou Holtz

Dear Readers,

The one thing that I have to say about ATTITUDE, is that
if you don't approach every challenge and every person in
Hollywood with a great attitude, you won't get too far.

This town is about relationships, and relationships are
about impressions and you remember the saying: "YOU
NEVER GET A SECOND CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION".

So in Hollywood, you are always going to encounter situations
that are not to your liking and if you handle them with
a solid sense of confidence, competence, humor, and
even handedness, it will show that you have a GREAT
ATTITUDE!

If you want to find a great attitude everywhere you go,
BRING ONE WITH YOU!

3rd Day: “Courage”

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is
the courage to continue that counts.”  —Winston Churchill

—————————-
Courage is a muscle.,,
—————————

Dear Readers,

It takes tremendous courage to tackle a creative
career.

And with the risks come huge rewards for those who
“stick it out”.

Each and every day we have to stretch and loosen
up our COURAGE muscle.

As you know, I constantly repeat the mantra “Acting
is a muscle, you have to work it out.”

So let me change that a little and say “Courage is
a muscle, you have to work it out!”

Each and every day, we have to take those challenges
that we have been avoiding, those challenges that
could move us a little closer to our creative goals,
and we have to face them with an open heart to allow
ourselves to find the truth in our creative lives
and to confront our own dark instincts of self defeat.

So, this year, take your  courage and loosen it up
and practiceit in little ways.

Find those things that you dread doing because of fear
of failure, and confront them and take  small steps to
challenge your courage muscle and face down your fears.

Do it in small ways and that way, as you approach those
larger fears, you know that you are gaining strength and
growing and you have STRONG COURAGE.

Remember, your fears are there to protect you from
danger, but in the modern world many times your
F-E-A-R becomes FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL.

So, if you just move yourself into the arena
that you fear, you can confront those fears and
find the courage to continue.

So flexing your courage muscle will give you the
confidence to fight on as a creative warrior.

“…most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”
Steve Jobs

Cleaning up the clutter…
————————————-

Wow, did this quote hit me like a piano…

“The next time you feel down or low or sad tackle your
junk drawer or your closet and get rid of anything you
don’t use or really, really love. Be ruthless, you probably
won’t miss it if you throw it out – how important can it be
if its been in the back of your closet for two years? You’ll
be amazed how much better you feel and how much lighter the
space you live in becomes.”—mk

Second Day: “WILL”

This Holiday, help us give you the WILL TO WIN!

If you have the will to win, you have achieved half
your success; if you don’t, you have achieved half
your failure.—David V.A. Ambrose

(Special thanks to http://beliefnet.com for this quote!)

Every day I encounter actors with the WILL TO WIN, no
matter how long it takes or what hardships you will
encounter.

Merry Christmas and Happy Chanakuh to all of you. Happy
New Year to Buddhists and Hindus, Muslim and Sikh and
EVERYONE ELSE—I want this to be our gift to you…

What I want to give you is a a boost to “THE WILL TO WIN!”

That’s right, at the Actorsite, we want you to KNOW that
the road to creative success is paved with tenacity and
hard work, talent, all of those wonderful skills that you
have, and most importantly, the knowledge that YOU CAN WILL
IT TO HAPPEN.

I want to give you the confidence to know that as long
as you PUSH FORWARD, it’s not IF but WHEN!

So, at the Actorsite, we want you to KNOW THIS IN YOUR
HEART! So every step you take forward, every push you
make, every time you practice your skills, or go to class,
to go to a workshop,  you are MOVING CLOSER TO YOUR SUCCESS.

WINNING means beating the odds and competing against
your negative self. If your positive self wins, you
WIN BIG. If your negative self wins, you just fade
away…

So we want to give you the gift of THE WILL TO WIN
as you head into PILOT SEASON. It’s arriving soon,
so remember that this is YOUR YEAR TO SUCCEED!

All the best,

Jack Turnbull

First Day: Faith

On the first day of Christmas…

Dear Actors,

If you are a football fan, you know about Tim Tebow, the
quarterback for the Denver Broncos. He’s finding great success
by winning games in the last couple of minutes of each
game.

In an article for film makers about Tim Tebow, screenwriter
Danny Manus talks about what qualities Mr. Tebow has that
make him win, and how those qualities are necessary for
success in Hollywood. He especially talks about “faith”.

Actors can take note, the same qualities apply:

Manus writes: “…what I am saying is that his faith in his
own talents, the faith that his talents will overcome the
adversity he faces, and the faith that there is something
or someone bigger than him driving him to win – you need that to
keep going in this business.”

Faith and perseverance always win in Hollywood. Because those
who STAY IN THE GAME are always  winners.

Here’s a link to the full article. You’ll surely find
inspiration in it!

Yay Parents

Dear Readers,

Last night I watched Actorsiter Caitlin Carmichael
who was starring, along with Pierce Brosnan in the
A and E TV MOVIE “BAG OF BONES” based on a book by
Stephen King, the horror/mystery writer.

The story was compelling and full of twists and turns,
and Caitlin ROCKED with her performance.

Nice!

I remember the first day I met her. I was leaving
the office and my dog Bodi ran out the door before
me and knocked over this tiny little girl.

It was Caitlin Carmichael. She got up, dusted herself
off and said “Are you Mr. Jack?” and I said yes,
and she stuck out her hand and said “I’m Caitlin
Carmichael”.

And she had just turned 4 years old.

She already had goals and ambitions at a young age.

That’s unusual.

So now that she’s seven years old and has a few
films under her belt, she’s seems even more focused
and driven.

Contrast that with my own 4 year old, Venise, who,
is focused on “going to the mall playground”.

I love Venise, and I will definitely support her goals
to “go to the playground”, and, just maybe, she’ll get
interested in acting classes, since she is around them
all the time.

It’s super that Caitlin got interested and focused
at such a young age.

Many times kids have their own dreams and aspirations
at a young age. Some find their calling later.

Supportive parents can nurture those dreams and
provide a solid base on which to build success for
young creative artists.

Some kids have HUGE dreams at a young age and
they are willing to work for them.

And work hard.

So here’s a shout out the the PARENTS of young artists
who provide the SUPPORT and ENCOURAGEMENT that young
talent need.

KUDOS TO YOU!

And a special shout out to Cathy Carmichael as she
guides and provides a solid base for Caitlin.

Super.

All the best,

Jack Turnbull

Eliminating Energy Vampires

Are Energy Vampires Ruining Your Life?
SOME “ACTION” LINKS AT THE END OF THIS MESSAGE!

Dear Actors,

“CUT OUT NEGATIVE PEOPLE AND ENERGY VAMPIRES FROM YOUR LIFE”

I love this quote from Bedros Keulian, a leading trainer.

When you are a motivated actor, you need to make sure that
you are focused and not being sucked into the drama that
can keep you from your goals.

Yesterday, I was talking to an Actorsiter who was having
family issues and facing negativity towards their choice
of a creative career. Then this morning I read this message
and I thought this was a great message to share for all.

Every day is a wonderful opportunity to take steps forward,
so use it to your advantage.

Here’s an excerpt from an article Bedros wrote for
EARLY TO RISE.

“…I have something that helps me keep my thoughts clean and
clear all the time. And you can use it too to protect your mindset.

If you feel that sometimes you’re stuck in a bad place and want
to change your thought patterns to those of the super successful
then consider these changes in how you think:

1. Eradicate the words “try” and “can’t” from your vocabulary
2. Cut out negative people and energy vampires from your life
3. Eliminate fear, greed, hate, and scarcity from your mindset
4. Surround yourself with positive people who you want to be like

Use the list above to shift your thought patterns to a success mindset.

But never forget this. The harsh truth is that YOU need to take
responsibility for your failures, successes, and lack of action.

That is the number one reason people never get what they want – No
personal responsibility. And with that they don’t take action
and 12 months go by and at best they’re in the same place in
life that they were last year… only older.”

– Bedros Keuilian as excerpted from EARLY TO RISE
http://www.earlytorise.com/

Thinking LEADING:

So many actors work on creative skills and marketing without
realizing that the MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT of your career is HOW YOU LOOK.

That’s right, when a producer is casting, the first thing they want
is the ACTOR WHO LOOKS THE PART.

And, if you want to book LEADING ROLES, you have to be FIT, because
if you are not, you will go for CHARACTER ROLES. And, even then, you
need to LOOK THE PART.

So if you need a little HELP this time of year to LOOK LEADING,
then here are a couple of MOBILE training programs to help you
get and stay in snap.

First, for those who are going for an ACTION LOOK, here’s the
24/7 FATBURNER PROGRAM that I KNOW works, I’ve seen the results.
This is great for both men and women…and it keeps you on your toes
even when you can’t get to the gym.
http://tinyurl.com/7tuau5y

And for a less intense approach, here’s FAT LOSS FOR IDIOTS:
http://tinyurl.com/6lw2c7w

Remember, the most important thing you can do today is
to TAKE ACTION, because much of your competition will not.

But then again, some of your competition will DEFINITELY take
action, so if you wish to compete, you will take action!

You are so much ahead if you do!

All the best,

Jack Turnbull
