Disney Open Call—Audition Tips!

Actorsite’s Awesome Acting Club

5512 Van Nuys Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91401

Here are some tips for those of you attending the Disney Open Call this weekend. YES, I encourage you to attend. It will be fun and YES, the real Casting Directors from Disney will be there. Say HI, if you already know them…

1. FREE PARKING—It’s $15 to park at Hollywood and Highland, BUT, if you park at the NORTH HOLLYWOOD or UNIVERSAL CITY Metro Stations, it’s free. Then ride the Metro. It’s all part of the same complex so you arrive right there!

2. ARRIVE EARLY: I would arrive by 8:00 am to make sure you are getting seen.
If you arrive at 9 am, there will be a huge line already. Kids come from all over the country for this, so expect a crowd.

3. Bring WATER and SNACKS for your wait. Don’t expect to be able to go get snacks and water, etc….be prepared to wait for a long time.

4. BEHAVE! Every Assistant at Disney is powerful. Don’t be pushing or nagging your child in front of them. YOU are auditioning as well as your child. Remember that person holding you in  the line is tomorrow’s casting director. If they see you being a “stage parent”,  they’ll be afraid to bring you to the next level. NOBODY likes pushy parents in our industry.

5. Bring a headshot and resume. NOT ONE of the big “DISCOVERIES” from these open calls was a total novice. All had studied for years and had headshots, resumes, classes, and were READY TO ROCK!

6. KIDS, BE READY TO SHINE! Go in with BOTH GUNS BLAZING! Don’t expect to go in beige—they like BRIGHT COLORS at Disney. Bring your BLING PERSONALITY! GO BIG OR GO HOME!

7. HAVE FUN! It’s a big party when you get with the other kids. Enjoy the process. This is not competitive– that next kid in line may be the next Disney Star…WITH YOUR CHILD  IN THE SAME SHOW! So be nice and have fun with the kids!

Here’s a warm up before you go in:
